Broken Narrative was developed over 1988/1989 by Kevin Willis . . . . . . With only minimal input for Jon Taylor, mainly on "Left Behind", because Jon was in the Coast Guard. No coincidence, though, that critics agree that "Left Behind" is one of the best tracks on the album.
It was perhaps the first Al Phlipp album to use something other than consumer level equipment: a real 4-track cassette recorder, a real keyboard (The Kawai K1) and an actual sampler, the Akai S700. Largely instrumental and samples, my love of combining odd samples and drum sounds with sometimes odd melodies and tempos began to manifest quite a lot on this album. |
